For about 8 weeks now I've been suffering on and off from pains in my chest. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with my heart, it's not in the right place. I get a stabbing pain in the left side of my chest, just above my left boob. I mentioned it when I went for my mammogram, and that seems to be all clear. I don't get it every day, but some days I've had it for hours on end. Occasionally I get it on the right side of my chest too. I wondered if it was from the fibromyalgia, as it seems to be tender when pressed.
Anyone else get this?

Hi Lyn
Yet something else to worry about.
Even though you are sure it has nothing to do with your heart, I do think you should have a word with your GP. I KNOW you won't want too - but really think you should, just to be on the safe side.
It seems as if it is probably the fibro - especially as you are so tender, but it could be RA in the ribs?
Hope it eases soon

Hi Lyn, I'd agree with Jean, at least get it checked out, I had something similar really bad not long after I was first diagnosed, my GP came out and ordered an ambulance. Hospital checked everything and it was RA acting up in the rib area. but I was told it's always better to get such things checked out. Hope you get some relief soon. there is something called costocondritis and then there are other possibles like pleuritic pain and then there are the clavical joints that can swell up.
If it is always over the left side, do mention it to the gp as you can get pericarditis which is where the sack around the heart can get fluid round it.
Anyway- they all hurt!
I find the Phorpain gel, heat pads and wearing a soft but supportive bra can really help- dont laugh but the maternity ones are very soft and supportive!

Hi Lynn,
I suffer from pleurisy as a result of the RA (inflammatiion of the lungs, basically) and that is usually pain in the chest on both left and right sides, shoulder pain as well as indigestion-like pains in the centre of the chest. Does it get worse if you bend over?
I agree with the others though ... you definitely need to get it checked out.
Hope you find some relief from it soon though.

Hi Lyn glad you posted this as i too have experienced it only about four times in the last few weeks but it has stopped me in my tracks as i was scared, its on the right side of my chest at the top of my breast ,it is also sore to touch, at first i thought it was indigestion but it happened in bed and it takes my breath away, i mentioned it in clinic last week but the consultant didn't say any thing he just wrote it down , to be honest i had a list of different things that all he said was you need another go of the Rituximab ! Never heard of fibromyalgia before i started on this forum, definitely mention it to the doctor and let me know how you get on,

Dear Lyn,
I would be frightened too and would have been at my GP's asking for tests! Just to be on the safe side it is best to have it checked.
Having suffered from severe panic disorder since I was 17 (on and off, thankfully!) I do know that worry and panic can cause chest pains and discomfort. I am not suggesting this is what it is but just to say it could be a number of things or absolutely nothing at all, and to reassure you thoroughly it is best to bring it to the GP.
Much love and prayers,
Amanda

Hi Lyn, As the others all say ... get it checked! In fact anything that isn't 'normal' to you, you should see your GP about. We await your report! Warmest wishes, Ann "I cannot do everything. I accept that. Not being able to do everything is no excuse for doing nothing." ~ Helen Keller

Hi Lyn, seriously hoping that bynow you have taken the others advice and got things checked out! I have had pleurisy and costochondritis both painful and unpleasant. I find it best to know what I am dealing with, it takes the fear away!
I wish you well, hope it improves for you soon.

Oh Lyn,
Get it checked just in case you are missing something. Sounds sore and you have enough to contend with without any more.
Take care ,

Dear Lyn
I have something similar and was told it was ccostochondritis. Its inflammation of the rib cartrlidge. Not RA as no joints in rib. My consultant said that its common and didnt offer me anything else for it. Best get it checked out
Take care

Thanks for all your replies and advice. The trouble is with going to see the GP, the day that you go, it doesn't hurt! I'm getting it on and off, and some days aren't so bad, but I will definitely see GP if I get another bad day. I don't think it's anything to do with panic attacks, I've been feeling quite calm recently.
By the way, I had my first session of acupuncture yesterday. I don't feel any different right now. I didn't realise the physio was going to twiddle with the needles, some of that was quite painful, and I got pins & needles down the right side of my leg. She says that's a good sign!

Hi Lyn,
Can't really add to the great advice already given, and although you might not be in pain when you see your GP I definitely think it's worth speaking to them about it.
Hope the acupuncture works!
love,
